Synaptic learning models of map separation in the hippocampus

چکیده
When rats trained to forage in one environment are exposed to a second, highly similar environment, their hippocampal place code exhibits a partial remapping in the new environment that becomes more complete with repeated exposures (Tanila, Shapiro, and Eichenbaum, 1997; Bostock, Muller, and Kubie, 1991). If the perforant path projection to CA3 functions as a pattern completion mechanism, and the DG projection via the mossy bers performs pattern separation (O'Reilly and McClelland, 1994), then partial remapping can be understood as the combined e ect of these two projections. We investigated learning rules that could be responsible for the gradual separation of two maps, and found that, while simple Hebbian learning and Hebbian covariance learning would not produce the separation e ect, BCM learning was one rule that would.

Computational Pattern Separation Models of Dentate Gyrus Neural Subpopulation in the Hippocampus
Hippocampus is a part of the brain that has an essential role in memory and learning. It is involved in many cognitive and behavioral phenomena, including the pattern separation process: the ability to distinguish patterns with very high similarity. The present study compared the models of pattern separation in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus and aimed to investigate the significant cel...
متن کاملSpatial Learning and Memory in Barnes Maze Test and Synaptic Potentiation in Schaffer Collateral-CA1 Synapses of Dorsal Hippocampus in Freely Moving Rats
Introduction: Synaptic plasticity has been suggested as the primary physiological mechanism underlying memory formation. Many experimental approaches have been used to investigate whether the mechanisms underlying long-term potentiation (LTP) are activated during learning. Nevertheless, little evidence states that hippocampal-dependent learning triggers synaptic plasticity. In this study, we in...
متن کاملP15: Hippocampus-Neocortical Communication in Learning
The hippocampus is located in the medial temporal lobe and is a part of the forebrain. It plays a critical role in formation of declared memories. The hippocampus is banana-shaped and communicates with all parts of neocortex. Reptiles and birds have structures like hippocampus that potentially serve as navigation functions. During the mammalian evolution, the neocortex has a large expansio...
متن کاملP28: The Effects of Omega-3 and 6 Fatty Acids on Hippocampus and Learning
One of the most nervous system evolution are memory and learning in humans. Learning is a skill that enhances synaptic activity in the hippocampus of prefrontal cortex. In fact, basic passive learning is communication between the conditioned and Unconditioned stimulation. Passive learning involves three steps: habit, education and remember. According to the results of investigations, the hippoc...
